Washington Murder Suspect on the Run After Shooting Man Over Property Dispute

A Washington man is on the run after allegedly shooting another man and killing him during an argument over their property.

According to the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal shooting occurred in Moclips’ 100 block of Otis Avenue at 1:40 p.m. on Monday.

Deputies responded immediately to reports of a shooting and located a 59-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken from the scene.

After interviewing neighbors and witnesses, investigators identified the suspect as Rufas A. Phelps III, 62. Phelps was reportedly seen fleeing the scene by deputies.

Investigators believe that the fatal shooting was caused by an argument over property. Other details weren’t immediately available.

The search for Phelps was completed by deputies on Tuesday morning. On Wednesday, the third day of the search began.

The suspect was not found by deputies who searched the area around 100 Block Otis Avenue, Moclips, Washington.

Authorities stated that Phelps should not be treated as “armed and dangerous.” Officials advised the public to not approach Phelps and instead to call 911 if they spot him.

Moclips is a tiny community on the Pacific Coast in Washington.
