19-Year-Old Arrested for Double Murder Months After Parents Were Found Shot to Death

Arizona’s Gila County Sheriff’s Office announced that a 19-year-old man was arrested this week for allegedly killing his parents. This was several months after the murders of the couple occurred.

Hunter Stanfield was charged in two cases of first-degree murder for the killings of Chase Stanfield (39), and Gail Stanfield (50).

The victims, both of whom were shot multiple times in the head, were found dead in their Payson home on Oct. 27, a central Arizona town about 80 miles northeast of Phoenix.

Jamie Garrett, Gila County Sheriff, stated that Hunter was arrested this week after being questioned.

“We interviewed Hunter Tuesday for [approximately] one hour, and then he was taken into custody for the crimes against his parents,” Detective Garrett stated.

According to the Payson Roundup, the Stanfields’ home wasn’t burglarized or evidence of an altercation.

Gila County Sheriff Adam Shepherd stated that detectives worked “non-stop to follow every lead, collect and evaluate all evidence.”

“This was a time-consuming investigation and the detective’s dedication to the community and justice should be commended,” the sheriff said in a statement.
