Texas A&M Received Almost $500 Million From Terrorist-Supporting Qatar

When will American institutions cease accepting payments from hostile foreign governments? According to a recent report by Judicial Watch Texas A&M University received grants worth almost $500 million from the Qatar Foundation. This nonprofit is led by the terrorist-supporting Qatari Government.

Judicial Watch released a report on May 3, based on documents obtained by Zachor Legal Institute through court litigation. The information was provided under the Texas Public Information Act. Documents revealed that the Qatar Foundation and other Qatari entities had given Texas A&M $485,811,921.33 worth of grants and contracts. The Qatar Foundation is affiliated with and founded by the rulers in Qatar, whose government harbors radical Islamic extremists and terrorists.

Judicial Watch also said that there were apparent discrepancies in the records of donations to the Qatar Foundation. The Department of Education database shows that Qatar sent Texas A&M over $47,000,000 between January 1, 2013 and May 22, 2018 The university’s gift records only show $69,844.41 in total for the same time period.

The Federalist made the following argument in an article published by The Federalist in 2019. The piece was entitled “It’s Time to Officially Recognize That Qatar is a State Sponsor of Terror.”

Qatar has the second largest gross domestic product (GDP) per capita in the world. Qatar Airways is one of the largest airlines in the world, operated by this wealthy oil emirate. Al Jazeera is one of the most influential state-sponsored media outlets in the world. It also has a significant influence on higher American education. More than $1.5 billion was donated to some of America’s most prestigious universities, including the University of Michigan and the University of North Carolina.

Qatar has its dark side, despite all of its “contributions.” It supports and harbors terrorism in a way that is disproportionate to its size. Qatar’s actions led President Trump to acknowledge Qatar’s funding of terror as “on a very high level.”

Judicial Watch reported that the previously-hidden records included a document entitled ‘Qatar Grants and Contracts,’ which covered January 1, 2013, through May 22, 2018. The document listed grants from Qatari entities, ranging in value from $121,643.84 from Qatar Computing Research Institute to $485.811,921.33 from Qatar Foundation.

A second record is “Qatar Gifts” which includes another $69,844.41 in donations from Qatar Foundation. Maersk Oil Qatar also gave $1,536,230.88 as a gift.

Tom Fitton, Judicial Watch’s President, said: “Now we understand why terrorist-linked Qatar fought us in the court to conceal its financial support for Texas A&M. We just learned that it is almost a half-billion dollars.” Marc Greendorfer of Zachor Legal Institute said: “Thanks for the skillful and determined work of Judicial Watch the country is now aware of the extent of foreign governments’ interference in American institutions.”

This interference must stop immediately in order to protect American sovereignty.
