Republican Congressman Reveals Cause of Oldest Daughter’s Tragic Death

Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin announced the death of his daughter on Tuesday.

Van Orden’s press office issued a statement that Sydney Marie Martenis had died after fighting cancer for more than a year.

“It is with the most profound sense of grief and joy that Sara Jane and I announce the passing of our oldest daughter, Sydney Marie (Van Orden) Martenis, after a year of battling a very aggressive form of cancer. She died peacefully surrounded by her family,” Van Orden said.

We’re saddened we can no longer share her laughter and smiles in person, but thankful she is now at rest with our Lord. We are thankful that we were able to spend these years with her and her family.

The representative posted the news to his website and social media accounts, including his press office website.

“Sydney is survived by grandma Virginia Whitelock, husband Chris, daughter Madelyn, sons Charlie and Roman, father and mother Derrick and Sara Jane, sister Abigail (Williams), brothers Theodore and Daniel, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins,” the statement continued.” “Thank you for all of the tender mercies you have shown to our family. May God bless you all.”

Chris Martenis’ husband posted a memorial to her on social media the same day, calling her an “exemplary” wife and mother.

Martenis wrote that she was the hardest-working, most thoughtful person he had ever met. She always surprised him with new and exciting experiences for their children. ”

He said: “She taught me to love by teaching me to be a good friend, raise children and participate in marriage. She set a standard that few, if any, could match. The world is less bright without her here.”

Van Orden received messages of support from other legislators.

Kevin McCarthy, the House speaker stated, “I am praying for Rep. Van Orden’s family during this difficult time. ”

Tammy Baldwin wrote, “I am so sorry for the loss you have suffered [Rep. Van Orden]. “My heart goes out to you, and all those who are mourning your loss. You will be in my thoughts during this difficult time. “
