Like A Deer In Headlights

WASHINGTON, DC - AUGUST 06: U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) (R) speaks to reporters alongside Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) (L) following continued negotiations with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows on a new economic relief bill in response to the coronavirus pandemic on Capitol Hill on August 6, 2020 in Washington, DC. The White House and Congressional Democrats have yet to come to an agreement on what the new relief bill will include despite the CARES Act expiring on July 31st. Nancy Pelosi was recently reminded by “Fox News Sunday” host, Chris Wallace, that the Democrats are responsible for President Donald Trump taking action to provide Americans with economic relief amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

After two weeks of negotiations, the White House and Democrats failed to agree on a second COVID-related economic relief bill. The Democrats were demanding more than $3 trillion tax dollars be spent in the next relief bill, something that the Republicans and the White House outright rejected. The Democrats finally trimmed $1 trillion from their demands, but their requests remain at more than $2 trillion. The White House rejected the alleged compromise.

President Trump didn’t wait for Congress to provide economic relief for struggling Americans. He bypassed Congress and signed four executive orders that included a $400-per-week supplemental unemployment payment, an extension of student loan relief, eviction protections and a payroll tax holiday.

He also signed an executive order that defers payroll taxes through the end of the year to Americans earning less than $100,000.

“Democrats are obstructing a COVID-19 relief bill. Therefore I’m taking executive action and we’re going to save American jobs and provide relief to the American workers. We’re doing that without the Democrats. We should have been able to do it very easily with them, but they want all these additional things that have nothing to do with helping people. If Democrats continue to hold this critical relief hostage, I will act under my authority as president to get Americans the relief they need,” President Trump said.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Democrats are expected to pursue legal action against the President, putting the relief in jeopardy. Democrats have continued to block all attempts of providing relief to American families affected by the government shutdowns.

During a lengthy interview with Wallace, Pelosi claimed that Trump’s actions provided the illusion of assistance. Wallace argued that Democrats have failed to compromise, meaning that Americans will not receive any of the help that they need.

“Speaker, but the point I’m trying to — I’m trying to make is, you — they were offering $150 billion for cities and states. You wanted $900 billion. The result of no deal is that the states and cities, which we all agree do need some money, are going to get nothing. I guess the question is — and I’m not saying it’s all your fault anymore than it’s all the Republicans’ fault, but the failure to make a deal is going to result in a lot of people and a lot of entities that were in need ending up with nothing,” Wallace hammered.

Pelosi went on to explain that as long as lawmakers negotiate, then Democrats will refuse to make cuts in their demands. She’d rather watch everyone suffer than let President Trump accomplish anything, even if it’s in the best interest of the citizens and the country. That alone should get her voted out of office. The interview put the spotlight on Pelosi blocking relief from the American people and she didn’t even have one legitimate answer.

The Democrats have gotten very publicly defensive with the idea of money going to the American people that they have to make sure the bills include their donors as well. That’s all this relief bill has been about for the Dems. Cutting deals, keeping connections, it’s all practically a business plan.
