House Democrat Announces Death of His 28-Year-Old Daughter

Democratic Rep. Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, Illinois, has announced the death of his 28-year-old daughter Rosa.

Although he released a statement on Tuesday about the sad news, he didn’t provide any details regarding the cause of death.

Garcia stated, “Our beloved daughter Rosa passed away last night at the age of 28. Our family is devastated. Rosa, a young girl from foster care, joined our family. We tried our best to offer Rosa a loving, stable, and welcoming home. Our family requests privacy during this difficult time and would appreciate your prayers and thoughts during this difficult time.

Other lawmakers have also sent condolences.

“My heart breaks for @repchuygarcia and his family. The loss of a loved one, especially of a child, is an incomparable pain. Sending prayers and strength to heal,” Democratic Rep. Barbara Lee tweeted.

“This is terrible. Angela and I are keeping @RepChuyGarcia’s family in our prayers during this difficult period,” Democratic Senator Alex Padilla from California tweeted.

“My heart breaks for @RepChuyGarcia and the entire García family. The loss of a child is an unimaginable pain that, sadly, I know all too well. My prayers and deepest sympathies are with you,” Democratic Rep. Joe Morelle of New York tweeted.

“My deepest condolences to @RepChuyGarcia. The loss of a child is an unimaginable pain and I will keep his entire family in my thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time,” Democratic Rep. Nydia Velázquez of New York tweeted.

Garcia has been in the House since 2019. Garcia lost the 2015 Chicago mayoral race to Rahm Emanuel.
