They were accused of trying remove Deripaska’s name from the U.S. Sanctions List.
“Both had worked previously with Deripaska to remove his sanctions. They, as public officials should have known better,” Damian Williams (U.S. attorney for Southern District of New York), stated in a statement. He said that the Office would continue to prosecute those who violate U.S. Sanctions in response to Russian aggression in Ukraine in order to make their pockets rich. ”
Both men face charges of:
One count for violating the IEEPA (International Emergency Economic Powers Act).
One count for conspiracy to launder money
Additional money laundering can be another charge
Each of these charges can result in a maximum sentence of up to 20 years imprisonment in federal prison. Shestakov also faces one count of lying about FBI. He could be sentenced to an additional five-year term.
To investigate Trump’s collusion, the FBI sent a top-ranking agent. He was arrested for conspiring to assist a Russian oligarch.
