The White House claimed that Republican Texas Governor. Greg Abbott is creating “chaos at the border” and states should get out of immigration.
Karine Jean-Pierre, White House Press Secretary, answered questions during a brief press conference before President Biden’s Friday visit at the Central Intelligence Agency.
Jean-Pierre was asked by reporter if there were any plans to provide a legal response to Abbott’s executive order that authorized state law enforcement officials and Texas National Guard personnel to apprehend illegal aliens and return them to their homeland.
“Especially Texas Governor. Jean-Pierre stated that Abbott has a history of creating chaos and confusion at our border. “So, I would refer to [the Department of Justice] any legal matter. However, immigration enforcement is a federal matter.
Abbott signed an order Thursday that allowed Texas law enforcement officials to return illegal immigrants arrested in Texas back to the U.S. border. This was just after counties urged him to declare this migrant crisis an invasion.
The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas National Guard can apprehend illegal immigrants crossing between southern border ports. The order will allow illegal aliens to be brought into the United States, but not to Mexico.
This comes at a historic time for migrant encounters at border. Abbott stated that Texas had 5,000 migrant arrests over the Independence Day weekend.
Abbott took a variety of drastic measures to deal with the flood of migrants that hit the state, including busing them to Washington, D.C., last year. The state also increased resources and law enforcement at the border to arrest illegal immigrants under Operation Lone Star.
