Trump Sues NY Attorney General Letitia James In Effort To Halt Probe Into Trump Organization

Trump sued Letitia James, the New York Attorney General, to stop a lengthy civil investigation into Trump’s business practices. The suit was filed at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York. The suit claims that James’ investigation into Trump’s business dealings, which lasted for more than two years, violated the constitutional rights of the former president.

Habba stated that Habba “has shortchanged the government by initiating this investigation into partisan politics, and has forever stained her office’s sanctity,” Habba continued. Habba said that Trump’s legal team filed the lawsuit Monday against Trump to “not only hold him responsible for her blatant Constitution violations but also to end her bitter crusade to her political opponents.” ”

James had previously requested Trump’s testimony in a civil investigation into Trump’s business practices. According to James’ office, Trump was requested to take a deposition on Jan. 7.

James’ investigation covers more than 20 years and examines whether Trump Organization misled banks or tax offices about asset value. To get tax savings, you can inflate assets to obtain favorable terms or minimize them. James released a statement following the lawsuit being filed, blaming James’s filing for another delay in her probe.

James said Monday that the Trump Organization tried repeatedly to delay our investigation into its business dealings. In an attempt to attack the investigation collaterally, Donald Trump and his company named after him have now filed a lawsuit. She said, “To be precise Mr. Trump or the Trump Organization don’t get to decide if they will answer.” “Our investigation won’t be stopped because Trump is not above the law. ”

Monday’s lawyer general’s office reported that James had in August 2020 filed a motion to compel Trump Organization’s records and testimony to support her claims about “specific” Trump Organization properties and transactions.
