Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg recently passed away from complications of metastatic pancreatic cancer. Numerous politicians and significant figures praised her long service, including President Trump.
“She just died? Wow. I didn’t know that…She led an amazing life. What else can you say? She was an amazing woman, whether you agree or not. She was an amazing woman who led an amazing life. I’m actually sad to hear that,” said President Trump.
There has been speculation on whether or not Republicans would try to confirm a new justice with enough votes before the election season. Many GOP Senators have confirmed that they will not vote for any new Supreme Court Justice until after Inauguration Day in January. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell would need 50 votes to confirm a new Supreme Court Justice.
The radical left have dramatized the entire scene with promises to “burn it all down” if Republicans went ahead with a confirmation process before the election. Political writers such as Reza Aslan and Laura Bassett have already promised riots and burning down the country if McConnell tries to vote his way through. They have promised to “take to the streets” and “save” our Democracy. It’s insane how far liberals justify violence in order to push their own political agendas.
Other figures such as former President Barack Obama have said the Senate should wait until after the inauguration. Joe Biden basically said that whoever wins the presidential election should nominate her replacement, suggesting to wait until January as well. It seems like the liberals want to wait this one out, but that might not be the smartest thing to do.
Sen. Ted Cruz pointed out why Democrats should want to nominate and confirm a new Supreme Court before the presidential election.
“We cannot have Election Day come and go with a 4-4 Court. We risk a constitutional crisis if we do not have a 9-Justice Supreme Court, particularly when there is such a risk of a contested election,” Sen. Cruz said on Fox News.
The Texas Senator noted that the Democrats will delay filing the vacancy because the nomination is why Donald Trump was elected. The nomination is why voters voted for a Republican majority in the Senate. If Joe Biden intends to challenge the election, as he says he will, then they also intend to fight the legitimacy of the election. He is trying to lawyer his way to legally win the election and all of this will put the country into a constitutional crisis.
If the Democrats want to “challenge” the election process and contest it, they’re going to need a lot of political power from the Supreme Court for that.
You can bet if we had a Democrat President and the Democrats controlled the Senate, they’d be pushing to confirm before the election as well. For now, they’ll just throw a few media temper tantrums at the Republicans and threaten to burn the entire country down. Again.
