Chuck Schumer, Senate Majority Leader, falsely claimed that the Supreme Court was comprised of “all White men” up to 1981. This was a claim that was made by Chuck Schumer, the Senate Majority Leader. He also omitted Justice Thurgood Marshall who was appointed in 1967 by Lyndon B. Johnson.
Schumer stated that President Biden had made a historic pledge to name a Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court.
Schumer neglected Marshall, a member of the high court’s liberal wings who served as associate justice between 1967 and his retirement in 1991. He was 84 years old when he died in 1993.
After being nominated in 1991 by Republican President George H. W. Bush, Marshall was replaced by Associate Justice Clarence Thomas.
Schumer stated that he met with Biden on Wednesday at the White House to discuss his intention to nominate the Supreme Court’s first Black woman after Associate Justice Stephen Breyer announced retirement. Biden stated that he would nominate a nominee by the month’s end.
Schumer stated Thursday that he would ensure that the confirmation process was fair and swift.
