Ocasio-Cortez & Sanders Talk About Pushing Biden “More Left”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently agreed with Sen. Bernie Sanders that Joe Biden is not progressive enough for the left.

“One of the reasons why I was supportive of Sen. Sanders was because of how progressive his stances are, but, you know, the primaries are over, and right now what is most important is to make sure that we ensure a Democratic victory in November and that we continue to push Vice President Biden on issues from marijuana to climate change to foreign policy,” Ocasio-Cortez told JustTheNews reporter Nick Ballasy.

Ocasio-Cortez claims that this doesn’t mean she’s trying to undermine the party or undermine each other, adding that she is just trying to fight for a progressive agenda. Foreign policy and immigration are just a few of the issues she would like Biden to have a more progressive stance on.

She also described Biden’s campaign as “pretty stubborn” on health care reform. Their campaign has refused to endorse Sanders’ signature “Medicare for All” health plan, attacking the plan with its $35 trillion price tag.

While she still supports Medicare for all, Ocasio-Cortez agreed that a public option (which is Biden’s plan) is still better than the Affordable Care Act, a federal statute signed into law by President Barack Obama. It’s always ironic seeing Biden oppose the exact laws he also signed in office as Obama’s former VP.

Sanders, on the other hand, has expressed doubts about Biden and says that he is at serious risk of losing the election to President Trump by alienating progressives. The left-wing progressives who supported Sen. Bernie Sanders are having a hard time getting behind Joe Biden who is constantly changing his viewpoints and opinions depending on where the wind blows.

Bernie supporters are not happy about the notion of supporting Joe Biden. “We have to be true to ourselves and acknowledge that Biden is a mediocre, milquetoast, neoliberal centrist that we’ve been fighting against in the Democratic establishment,” said hard-core leftist Harvard professor Cornel West.

Ocasio-Cortez has suggested a mass movement and widespread support for the chance to incorporate her democratic socialist policies into office.

Despite the concerns from Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders, the Biden campaign has actively promised the left with empty policies and mainstream media performances. They’ve promised “civilian corps” instead of first responders, banning for-profit private charter schools, and are looking at eliminating carbon pollution from power plants by 2035 which would cost millions of jobs and destroy the middle class.

These are the “unity guidelines” of the Biden Campaign that would turn the administration into one that is much more progressive and much more destructive. Even the people on the left barely support this.
