NY’s New Governor Empowered Cuomo’s Toxic Culture & Has Been Silent Scandal After Scandal

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s stack of scandals and resignations has led to Kathy Hochul being the female governor in the state. She is the first woman to hold the post in the state’s nearly 250-year-old history and will become the 57th Governor.

Hochul carried the position of lieutenant governor and will take over for Cuomo, adding that state Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins would take her position until the role is filled. This is the first time there will be a vacant seat for lieutenant governor since 2008 when former Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigned in a prostitution scandal. He was succeeded by Lt. Gov. David Paterson. New Yorkers will choose the next governor and lieutenant governor in the Nov. 2022 midterm elections and until then, they will have Gov. Hochul.

According to Rep. Lee Zeldin, who is running for governor of New York in 2022, Hochul has been silent scandal after scandal, from Cuomo’s rampant harassment and abuse to hiding up fatal nursing home policies. He said Hochul “empowered” Cuomo’s disgusting behavior and cultivated this toxic culture, adding that New York needs to get rid of the Cuomo-Hochul administration and its “disgraceful legacy.” He emphasized that the people of New York need new leadership to end attacks on our freedoms, our wallets, and our safety.

Zeldin pointed out that it’s not just about Cuomo, but those who have continued to preserve the status quo and set the strict standards for how New Yorkers live.

“Every New Yorker, regardless of who they vote for, where they live or how much they make, deserves much better than this. The last three Democrat Governors have left office embroiled in scandal. Albany corruption is systemic, fundamental, and real. One-party Democrat rule enables this type of malign behavior,” Zeldin said.

Hochul announced that Cuomo’s decision to step down is the right thing to do and in the best interest of New Yorkers. Scandals began last December when one of Cuomo’s top aides Melissa DeRosa admitted to Dem leaders that they “froze” and underreported COVID-19 numbers in nursing rooms. She said that the governor had a fear of criticism from the public and the Trump Administration.

A string of sexual harassment accusations from former staffers followed and Cuomo’s downfall began. Attorney General Letitia Jones launched an investigation into the accusations and confirmed 11 victims of sexual harassment. While Cuomo has denied touching anyone inappropriately, he acknowledged that the comments may have made aides feel uncomfortable and apologized for the behavior.

“As someone who has served at all levels of government and is next in the line of succession, I am prepared to lead as New York State’s 57th Governor,” Hochul tweeted.

Hochul’s term expires at the end of next year. New York voters will then choose the next governor and lieutenant governor in the November 2022 midterm elections.

As long as Cuomo is being placed by another Democrat, nothing will change and the state will remain corrupt. Democrat control is what suffocates residents with higher taxes and cost of living. Just ask the people of California who are currently recalling their own governor. Cuomo is just one sleazy criminal down and with many more to go. Until then, more people will be leaving New York than arriving. Nothing but a constant stream of U-Haul trucks headed south.
