New York’s National September 11 Memorial & Museum recently announced that it will not be putting on its annual “Tribute in Light” memorial display this year. They have stated on their website that the workers’ risk of installing the lights would be far too great because of COVID-19. Funny how there was no fear for the workers used to paint a BLM mural at Trump Tower, but hey, we know where NYC’s priorities are.
Instead of the massive lights beaming symbolically where the Twin Towers once stood, many iconic New York buildings will be lighting their spires and facades in blue to honor those killed on 9/11.
“This incredibly difficult decision was reached in consultation with our partners after concluding the health risks during the pandemic were far too great for the large crew required to produce the annual Tribute in Light. We hope to resume this iconic tribute for the 20th anniversary,” the National September 11 Memorial & Museum website stated.
According to The New York Post, the museum had already scrapped their in-person readings of 9/11 victims at the annual Ground Zero ceremony. A nonprofit, The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, stepped up and announced their own separate Lower Manhattan ceremony where family members of 9/11 victims will be permitted to read the names of their loved ones.
As you can guess, Twitter mobs expressed their outrage over the decision. Many pointed out that COVID-19 fear can’t be that dangerous if NYC schools are opening up September 9th, while others suggested to just “call it a protest” and then the state would probably allow it.
“It takes about 40 people to set up those lights. I would volunteer without hesitation to do this. I’m sure thousands would. Do not make the sky over Manhattan be dark. We need the light,” another tweeted.
If we allow mass looting and violence in our own streets, I think we should be able to have our own readings and put up our lights too. Everything about staying safe from coronavirus has simultaneously been attacking our mental and emotional health. For the families of 9/11 victims wanting to honor their loved ones, this was the final straw.
It’s ironic that the signs read “Never Forget” in the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. The Dems definitely forgot. The amount of disrespect they’ve presented in trying to erase our history has nothing to do with the coronavirus at all. It’s a part of the ongoing smear campaign against police and another way to erase being patriotic…which, according to the left, is bad.
