Loay Alnaji, a professor at Moorpark College, was arrested by Ventura County Sheriff’s Office deputies early Thursday morning and charged with manslaughter for the death of Paul Kessler.
Kessler was a Jewish man who attended a counterprotest against a pro-Hamas rally in Thousand Oaks on November 5. Alnaji confronted Kessler and allegedly struck him with a loudspeaker, causing Kessler’s head to hit the pavement. Kessler was pronounced dead at a hospital in the area a few hours later.
Alnaji was first mentioned by the Ventura County deputy in their initial press conference. Deputies searched Alnaji’s Moorpark home one week ago. At the time, they claimed they didn’t have enough evidence to make an arrest. This was primarily because of conflicting witness testimony.
According to the press release, the authorities are still investigating this incident and more arrests may be made.
