According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner and Coroner, Matthew Perry’s cause of death was “deferred”.
A representative from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner Coroner’s Office confirmed that “an autopsy was performed today and toxicology tests are still pending.”
Sources from law enforcement confirmed that Perry died on Saturday following an apparent drowning at his home, in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles. He was 54.
No drugs were found at the scene, and there is no suspicion of foul play.
The coroner listed “other significant disease” as the cause of death.
The medical examiner said that his body was “ready to be released.”
Perry’s residence was listed as the place of his death. The case is still open.
He was 24 when he started playing Chandler Bing in the popular sitcom “Friends.”
The series aired on NBC for a decade and starred Jennifer Aniston as well as Courteney Cox Lisa Kudrow Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer.
Marta Kauffman, David Crane, and Kevin Bright, executive producers of “Friends”, released a statement in response to Perry’s death: “We are deeply, deeply shocked by the passing of our beloved friend Matthew. It seems impossible. “All we can say is we are blessed to have him in our lives.”
