I want to tell you Kavanaugh and Gorsuch. You’ve released the whirlwind and will be punished. These terrible decisions will leave you in shock.
In March 2020, Chuck Schumer, the Senate Majority Leader, spoke these words. He is one of the most powerful elected officials in the country. After years of cynically delegitimizing high court judges, Schumer moved to openly threaten lifetime-appointed judges by name because he was afraid they would revoke the concocted constitutional right for an abortion.
Schumer initially refused to retract those comments. His spokesperson ludicrously claimed that the statement was “a reference to the political price Senate Republicans would pay for putting these judges on the court.” However, Schumer didn’t mention the Republican Party or any Republicans. He named the two new justices. “You” and “You.”
It is unlikely that Democrats like Schumer will be able to tie the story of a Californian man with a weapon and other burglary equipment to the coverage of Brett Kavanaugh’s home. He was reportedly trying to kill the Supreme Court justice in Dobbs. CNN’s political reporters won’t walk from one Democratic senator to the other asking them whether their rhetoric was responsible for inciting a man with a knife, a Glock, ammunition, and pepper spray to enter the Supreme Court justice’s home. We won’t have a national conversation on the specter of leftist violence.
When James Hodgkinson, an Alexandria, Virginia-based terrorist, entered a field of baseball and opened fire, very few media outlets mentioned that Sanders was a huge fan of Bernie Sanders. Sanders is a socialist who claims that America is on the brink of fascism. Sanders’ actions were not attributed to anyone in the media. Different situations have different standards for determining who is responsible for political violence.
Every Republican was asked to own a movement that did not align with their beliefs when cosplay Nazis protested in Charlottesville. It is difficult to get any media person to acknowledge that leftist unrest in America causes millions of deaths and does damage across the country. A sloppy (mostly FBI-initiated) plot to kidnap the Michigan governor was foiled. Gretchen Whitmer was stopped. It was a major story that was used as a microcosm for MAGA terrorists. There are a number of attacks on anti-abortion centers across the country today, but it barely gets noticed.
Normally, I don’t blame Democrats either for extremist actions. Problem is, that the left continues to push the boundaries using Schumer-like threats, but they also engage in relentless, daily smearing of their political opponents as seditious and vote-stealing fascists, child-murdering insurgents, and insurgents. Violence would be justifiable if this were true. It’s a dark lie.
Even though most people hate violence, there is an organized effort to intimidate justices. Peter Doocy asked Jen Psaki, White House press secretary if activists were planning to post maps of their homes to doxx Supreme Court justices. She replied: “Look, I think that the president wants that kind of thing.” Kavanaugh’s would-be murderer said to the FBI that he had found his address on the internet and came up with the idea of killing the Supreme Court justice.
Let’s not forget, that the White House encouraged protestors to visit the homes of the justices. This is a direct attack on the separation of powers and basic civility norms. People who want to restrict free expression cannot even ask their citizens to practice basic decency. Biden claimed that harassing Sen. Kyrsten Sinema in the toilet to force her to support Build back Better was part of the process.
House Democrats are refusing to vote for the Supreme Court Police Parity Act (a month ago passed by the Senate), which would provide enhanced protection for justices. It is reasonable to suppose that the House Democrats do not want justices to feel intimidated. This was almost certainly the purpose behind the Dobbs leak and the reason Schumer stood at the Supreme Court’s steps and threatened two justices. Things are about to get out of control unless grown-ups step in.
You might recall candidate Biden was even more emphatic about the dangers of governing by White House edict, noting that there are things you “can’t do by the executive order unless you’re a dictator. We’re a democracy. We need consensus.”
