Iran Stands Accused of Supporting Terrorism, Elected UN Assembly VP

The UN is clearly corrupt. PressTV, an Iranian news outlet, boasted that on June 2, the Islamic Republic of Iran was elected one of five vice presidents of the United Nations General Assembly for the Asia-Pacific Group at the upcoming session of this world body’s principal organ.

The U.S. State Department has classified Iran as a sponsor of terrorism. Iran and the UN provide constant verbal support to Palestinians whose government is controlled in part by Hamas terrorists.

Iran was rocked by protests when the morality police of Iran was accused last year of killing a young girl. As of February 2023, there were reports of more than 19,600 arrests, and a number of women and men, especially women, who had been tortured and/or raped. This is the nation that was just selected as Vice President by the UN.

Trinidad and Tobago‘s Dennis Francis was chosen 78th UN General Assembly president, PressTV noted. Iran’s candidate was “unanimously” chosen as the General Assembly’s rapporteur of the Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Committee, Other countries that were chosen VPs include, per PressTV, “Congo, Gambia, Morocco, Senegal, Uganda and Zambia (Africa), Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan (Asia-Pacific), Estonia (Eastern Europe), Bolivia and Suriname (Latin America), as well as Iceland and the Netherlands (Western Europe and others).”

Iran’s new Vice-Presidency status was not welcomed by all. PressTV pointed out that both the U.S. as well as Israeli representatives at the UN had protested.

Jewish News Syndicate noted that Islamic Iran was so authoritarian, it executed its citizens online for allegedly “blasphemous posts.” JNS reported that the Israeli Foreign Ministry called Iran’s election a “shameful decision.” It added, “Instead of murdering its citizens, attacking innocents all over the world, and racing toward a nuclear bomb with the goal to wipe Israel off the face of the earth, Iran will now be serving in a senior U.N. role.”

Iran is openly advocating the eradication of Israel. As noted above, Iran’s government also oppresses its own citizens violently. Israel’s Foreign Ministry said that “[this] decision is an insult to millions of Iranians who are protesting for basic freedoms, and to justice, peace, and global stability, which the U.N. should stand for,”

By choosing Iran to be its vice president, the UN mocks its pretended mission.
