The remains of a man who disappeared in southern Argentina earlier in the month were found by fishermen inside a shark.
Law enforcement said the family of 32-year-old Diego Barría was able to identify his remains because of a distinct tattoo that was visible.
According to The Associated Press, Barria was last seen riding an All-Terrain Vehicle close to Chubut Coast late on February 18, according To The Associated Press.
His ATV was destroyed on February 20, Barria was lost after a long search, but he has not been found.
Two fishermen called the coastguard from the area Sunday morning to report that they had caught three school sharks close to Barria’s ATV. One of the sharks was found with human remains, according to them.
It is not clear how Barria was permitted to be swallowed and eaten by a shark that measures nearly five feet.
Daniela Millatruz was the law enforcement officer in charge of the search. She believes Barria was in an auto accident and that she was dragged. They are also looking into if there was any vehicle involved.
Cristian Ansaldo, with the Comodoro Rivadavia Police Department, said there was a strong tidal surge the weekend Barría disappeared.
Barria’s remains have been subject to DNA testing.
