Despite Barack Obama’s massive birthday celebration, the Met Gala event, and packed football stadiums, President Joe Biden’s chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci is still talking about the possibility of pandemic-era lockdowns around the holiday season. He emphasized how it is “too soon to tell” if American families can gather for Christmas. Talk about living in two different realities right now.
Fauci appeared on CBS’s “Face The Nation to talk about COVID-19 with host Margaret Brennan, who asked if we can all “gather for Christmas” or if it is too soon to tell.
“You know, Margaret. It’s just too soon to tell. We’ve just gotta concentrate on continuing to get those numbers down, and not jump ahead by weeks or months and say what we’re gonna do at a particular time,” Fauci said.
Fauci has been emphasizing harsh restrictions and measures in the light of the Delta variant, even suggesting that booster shots should be included in the definition of what it means to be “fully vaccinated.” He has changed his position multiple times about booster shots and pandemic-era measures, especially regarding his stance on the origins of the virus.
Fauci told Margaret that they needed “laser focus” to keep getting cases down and getting people vaccinated. He said there are certain situations where it is appropriate for people to get boosted because it can “help greatly in diminishing infection and diminishing advanced disease,” despite vaccinated individuals still getting COVID-19.
Many critics lashed out at Fauci’s holiday recommendations, including Fox News Laura Ingraham who wrote on Twitter, “That anyone would seek Fauci’s advice about whether they can be with their friends and family is deeply disturbing.” Outkick Founder Clay Travis also asked, “who in the world” is still listening to this dude talking about Christmas get-togethers. Even Rep. Andy Biggs notes that he does not know what Fauci would do without COVID.
“If you have family members who are still waiting for Fauci’s permission to live their lives, they aren’t worth inviting to your Christmas celebration anyway,” tweeted conservative commentator Matt Walsh.
Fauci has continued feeding the same vagueness to the American people and pushing goalposts to keep things going as long as he can. He continues to violate his own suggestions while emphasizing to others that they need to do everything necessary to “get those numbers down.”
Others, such as Washington Free Beacon reporter Chuck Ross, questioned journalists and media officials for continuing to frame these kinds of tyrannical questions to Fauci. There has been a mostly maskless Emmy’s award show and Met Gala, but he has not weighed in on any of those. He only has recommendations for those who want to spend the holidays with their family.
Even liberal CNN Brian Stelter knocked the messaging, adding that this seems “unhelpful” from public health messaging POV.
It’s hard to listen to the same official who was the source of the gain-of-function research that spawned the whole pandemic. But then again, he only follows the money and fear.
