Dr. Anthony Fauci was asked Sunday about the alleged cover-up by communist China regarding the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Joe Biden’s chief medical advisor and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases reacted to Trump’s actions by attacking his administration.
Fauci seemed to defend China’s refusal to disclose, even saying that the Chinese were “suspicious” and should not be blamed.
Fauci said that “The Chinese” didn’t include scientists who we know, but the whole establishment. Fauci stated that although there is nothing to hide their secretive behavior can lead to suspicion.
He quickly dismissed any possibility that COVID-19 was anything other than a natural occurrence.
Fauci stated that “If you look at the examination done by international scientists with no political agendas, they’ve published peer-reviewed journal articles that support that this is a natural event.”
Fauci said that COVID-19’s roots must be disclosed. This attack was directed at former President Donald Trump, who vocally blamed China.
Fauci said, “If you take a look at the anti-China approach clearly Trump administration had started from the beginning and the accusatory nature,” “the Chinese will flinch back and say, “No. I’m sorry. We won’t talk to you about this. ”
Margaret Brennan, the host of the program, pointed out that the Chinese have not cooperated with the Biden administration — suggesting that their lack of transparency is not due to Trump’s “accusatory nature”. Fauci supported his claims.
He stated, “I believe the horse is out of the barn and they are very suspicious if anyone tries to accuse them.”
In another interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Fauci was more explicit in denying that China is to blame.
“I don’t mean this in a broad pejorative way, but in anything that we’ve had to do over decades — whether it’s bird flu, H5N1, H7N9, or the original SARS in 2002 — even when there’s nothing to hide, the Chinese government act in a suspicious, non-transparent way just probably because they don’t want to make it look like there’s a blame,” Fauci said.
“When the reality is if something evolves in your country, it’s not to blame, but let’s find out what went on so we can be transparent about it and prevent it from the next time happening,” he added.
