Don Lemon, appearing on CNN’s New Day Thursday morning urged the media to treat Republicans with a higher standard than Democrats when they cover them in media coverage.
Primetime host compared the GOP to “growing extremism on the right.” He advised journalists not to give “false equivalent” to either side and to instead recognize that Republicans are endangering America.
Pew’s survey of almost 12,000 journalists revealed that 55% of them reject the notion that each side “always deserves equal coverage.”
Lemon was referring specifically to Republicans who support Trump’s former president after the January 6, 2021 riot in the Capitol and the recent Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe V. Wade.
In June, he made a similar plea, saying that journalists cannot pretend that the two sides are equal.
Lemon spoke of an interview with a former spokesperson from the Oath Keepers in which he said that Republicans were now associated with “extremists”. He denied any Republican opposition to this belief.
According to Gallup polls, Americans are less confident in media than they were in previous decades.
