Does Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Favor Reparations for Slavery?

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has expressed his support of reparations to African Americans for slavery after announcing his independent bid for the White House just a few weeks ago.

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. supports issuing reparations to the black community, making him the most prominent 2024 candidate to favor the controversial policy meant to atone for slavery and legal segregation.

The far left is frustrated that President Biden has been largely silent about this issue.

Kennedy, who dropped out of the Democratic primary race against Biden this month, spoke in favor of using federal funds to rebuild “the black infrastructure”, including banks and businesses. He also supports direct redress, tax credits, or other alternatives to cash giveaways.

The “Racial Healing” page of Kennedy’s campaign website contains his plan. In place of “reparations”, it talks about “Targeted Community Repair”, and mentions the direct payment plan:

Repairs should be focused on communities that were destroyed during Jim Crow. Racists knew the Black Community would not have a chance to prosper without these institutions. We need to set aside federal funds to rebuild Black Infrastructure.

These programs will be in addition to direct redress payment, or tax credit, for descendants of Jim Crow victims. RFK, Jr., is determined to find a legal and fair way to provide this redress as well as win the approval of Americans of all races.

Although President Biden claimed to support “a study” of reparations, he took no action.

It is a flawed concept because it gives money to people who were never slaves and takes it from people who owned slaves. This should be banned.

If a government acts for one person it must also act for the rest — or none.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is an independent candidate who may be able to steal more votes than Donald Trump, the GOP nominee, at this time. Biden was not my choice as the Democratic candidate. It seems less likely that Kennedy’s election campaign will hurt Republicans more than Democrats the more Kennedy talks about his policies.

Mr. Kennedy has been all over the map on Second Amendment issues. In 2018, Kennedy called the NRA a terrorist group, but by 2023 he promised to “never take away anyone’s firearm.”

It is hard to imagine anything else that could cause skepticism.

RFK, Jr. is a bit of a political chameleon. I find it hard to believe someone can change their mind about something so important as the Second Amendment in just five years. Kennedy may have fired many shots against the Biden administration but that does not mean that the environment is hostile.

Third-party candidates can be entertaining. Duke said that GOP voters shouldn’t turn to New Hotness regardless of their anger towards their elected officials. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., while not a radical, is a liberal who will reduce liberty as president, rather than increase it. Conservatives should remember this.
