Letitia James, Attorney General of New York, brought former President Donald Trump to New York Monday for a civil fraud trial.
The outcome of this case is pretty predetermined as Justice Arthur Engoron (the Democrat New York Supreme Court Judge overseeing the case) already threw Trump in the dirt last week when he ruled that Trump, his Organization, and other officials overestimated their property values. Engoron then canceled the defendants’ New York Business Certificates and ordered that an independent receiver oversee their dissolution.
As we have noted, real estate experts in the area questioned the decision of the judge regarding the value of Mar-a-Lago. They said that the judge undervalued the property. The judge tossed around figures like $18 or $21 million when experts said that smaller places with less land were worth $150 million or even more.
Alina Habba, Trump’s lawyer and advisor, called the trial a political attempt to remove Trump.
Alina Habba, a client of Letitia’s, said: “We heard Letitia make comments about how nobody is above the law.” “I find that quite rich, considering that any Democrat, even the Bidens, seem to be above the law on a daily basis.”
She repeated Trump’s claim that Democrats were bringing charges against him as he was “leading in polls.”
She said: “My faith in the system has worn thin, but I still have faith in Donald Trump.”
What is the bias and problem with this effort?
James’ 2018 campaign was based on a promise that she would go after Trump and call him an “illegitimate President.” It seems that running for office with the stated intention of targeting an opponent and denying election results is cool if you are a Democratic Attorney-General and your opponent is Donald Trump.
As James tries laying out her case over the next few months, there are already obvious issues with potential bias when Trump arrived this morning. The judge let cameras into the courtroom in hopes that it would be a negative for Trump. Engoron’s and Letitia James’s behavior is being questioned instead. It seemed Letitia was giving Trump the side eye and Engoron looked like he was playing with the cameras.

This is a bad look in a case that has been highly charged.
The clips show the George Washington University professor of law talking about the visuals. One answer is that it reinforces the idea that the judge is playing for the camera and that he can’t keep his decorum. He’s probably delighted that he is handling the trial against Trump. It’s a court trial so he has the final say. This is not good news.
The legal system is in a state of disarray. We are moving away from the rule of the law and towards the rule of the banana republic.
