Biden’s NYC Speech Slip-Up: Greets Crowd with ‘Welcome to Washington’

On Wednesday, President Biden didn’t realize he was speaking to world leaders in New York City about the war in Ukraine.

The president was at the Continental New York Barclay Hotel in Manhattan to talk about the Joint Declaration of Support for Ukrainian Recovery and Reconstruction. Biden is in New York and has delivered remarks to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.

He told the audience, “Thank you for your support, and welcome to Washington.”

He began his speech, not realizing the mistake.

Biden’s gaffe isn’t his first time saying the wrong city while traveling, but social media jumped on this latest embarrassing moment from the president.

Ryan James Girdusky, a New Yorker and a commentator, quipped: “Remember Joe Scarborough’s claim that Biden is sharper than he was twenty years ago… This explains why the country is in this shape.”

OutKick’s Ian Miller mocked Biden’s supporters as well. “He is sharp as a needle behind closed doors.” “He’s too fast and too hard-working for the staff to keep up.”

Biden’s gaffe is just a few weeks after he was confused and lost track during a Saturday press conference with India’s Prime Minister.
