Biden’s Call Up of Reservists: A New Level of Stupidity or a Misunderstanding of the Situation?

Joe Biden said on Thursday that the Secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security could call up to 3,000 individuals. Up to 450 of these people can be Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) members. IRR (veterans with completed active service but who still have service commitments and have chosen not to enroll in Reserve Units) members were last called in 2009.

Many people who should have known better jumped right on the bandwagon to claim that the US is now preparing to go to war against Russia. It’s not too far off from an involuntary engagement.

You can only use 1500 reservists as replacements if you have the authority to call up 3,000. Half of them will be on duty and the rest will return home or go inbound.

There are 80,000 soldiers on the continent of Europe. After the Russian invasion, we sent 20,000 soldiers to Europe and no one said anything. But now there are 3,000 scumbag reservists.

In 2020, President Trump authorized the call-up of 1,000,000…one million…members of the IRR to deal with COVID. The reaction was *crickets.*

Executive Order 13912—National Emergency Authority To Order the Selected Reserve and Certain Members of the Individual Ready Reserve of the Armed Forces to Active Duty
March 27, 2020

I act under the authority granted by the Constitution of the United States of America, and its laws including the National Emergencies Act of 1951 (50 U.S.C.)

Section 1. Emergency Authority. To provide additional authority to the Secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security to respond to the national emergency declared by Proclamation 9994, the authorities under section 12302 of title 10, United States Code, and sections 2127, 2308, 2314, and 3735 of title 14, United States Code, are invoked and made available, according to their terms, to the Secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security. The Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, at the direction of the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of Homeland Security with respect to the Coast Guard when it is not operating as a service in the Navy, are authorized to order to active duty not to exceed 24 consecutive months, such units, and individual members of the Ready Reserve under the jurisdiction of the Secretary concerned, not to exceed 1,000,000 members [emphasis mine] on active duty at any one time, as the Secretary of Defense and, with respect to the Coast Guard when it is not operating as a service in the Navy, the Secretary of Homeland Security consider necessary. The Secretary of Defense or the Secretary of Homeland Security, as applicable, will ensure appropriate consultation is undertaken with relevant state officials with respect to the utilization of National Guard Reserve Component units activated under this authority.

Sec. 2. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:

  1. the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or
  2. the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.
  • This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.
  • This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

I’m not going to call out members of the left online because I know and like many of them. But I will call politicians out who throw red meat for no reason.

Both of you are intelligent. What you both say is meant to inflame our base. It’s important that we don’t make ourselves appear silly. Russia doesn’t see the threat in adding 3,00 reservists.

Jack Kirby is the spokesperson for NSC. Although he may not be credible, he’s right in this instance.

Let’s return to Europe and the Pentagon’s announcement. We’ve already increased our number of troops in Europe by 20,000 and managed to maintain a rotating presence. You have over 80,000 soldiers in Europe. These are specialists in administrative tasks, logistics supply, medical care or dental care and other enabling roles needed to sustain large troop counts for a period of time. It’s not that it will. It has already changed. We must ensure we maintain the correct force posture to support a large Eastern Flanker presence on a long-term basis.

We are entitled to ask why. It’s perfectly acceptable to ask why. This would be US forces fighting Russians in Ukraine.

I’ve heard that up to 40% of those called-up work in cybersecurity. This is because the military can’t retain cybersecurity professionals. Due to the current recruitment and retention crisis, there are a large number of critical sustainment specialists who cannot be hidden.

This statement is not something I can verify in the near future. In the short term, I cannot verify this statement.
