Next year’s race is about more than challenging Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his numerous scandals – it’s about New York’s economy, taxes, crime, and quality of life. Residents have fleed from the Big Apple over the cost of living and the leadership they are under. But Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin is ready to challenge the politically wounded Cuomo and has vowed to lower taxes, fight crime, and bring integrity to Albany as their next governor.
Rep. Zeldin has been an avid supporter of former President Donald Trump and is a four-term lawmaker who represents the state’s 1st Congressional District in the eastern half of Long Island. He said “Cuomo’s gotta go” and that he is ready to win this race and return New York to its glory.
He accused the Democratic governor of producing a long line of scandals, lies, abuse, and harassment, as well as abusing his power and trust over NY residents. He tore into Cuomo after reports show he made $5 million in book profits, calling it ‘blood money’ and that he profited off of suffering.
“The New York that was once a magnet for the world’s best and brightest is now forcing its own to leave under the crushing weight of skyrocketing taxes, lost jobs, suffocating regulations, and rising crime resulting from dangerously liberal policies. At the helm of New York’s downfall is Governor Andrew Cuomo,” Rep. Zeldin said.
There has been a streamline of congressional endorsements for Zeldin including Rep. John Katko, former President Donald Trump, Rep. Jim Jordan, and State Republican Chair Nick Langworthy. He has already raised more than $2.5 million over the last month. Langworthy, along with other New York Republicans, met from potential candidates and said that Zeldin was the front runner for the nomination.
Other Republicans considering a run for governor next year include Lewis County Sheriff Mike Carpinelli, Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, and Andrew Giuliani.
“I think it would be a safe assumption that Lee Zeldin is the front runner because he’s the only person that’s declared his candidacy to that level. He’s announced a very serious sum of fundraising,” Langworthy said.
Rep. Katko also endorsed Zeldin for governor, saying it’s been an honor to serve the great state with his friend and colleague who helped safeguard our homeland, lower taxes, and secure a brighter future for all New Yorkers.
“He’s worked across the aisle for the betterment of his constituents and never backed down when it comes to fighting for them. His grit and unwavering determination are why he has my full support in his mission to fire Andrew Cuomo and bring our state back from the brink,” Katko said.
While Cuomo hasn’t announced whether he will run for a fourth term in 2022, it’s safe to say that his mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the sexual misconduct accusations by several women, might be enough to get a Republican elected in office and another power-hungry Democrat out.
