Update on Multiple People Being Shot in Uvalde

A shooting occurred in Uvalde (Texas) at approximately 5:30 pm local time. We previously reported on it. Two minors sustained injuries in the shooting. They were transported to San Antonio hospitals. The nature of the gunshot injuries they sustained is unknown, but they are said to be in stable condition now.

According to the police, they currently have four people of interest in custody. Police say another minor was named as a suspect in the shooting, and that he was being sought. Because they are minors, the police won’t reveal the identities of those involved.

Texas Department of Public Safety stated that the shooting was likely to be gang-related and that they would work with local police in the investigation.

Gov. Greg Abbott made a statement.

“I was shocked to discover that gang violence had endangered the Uvalde community, and innocent Texans, this evening.” Abbott stated, “I immediately called Mayor McLaughlin as well as County Judge Mitchell to offer my full support and resources for law enforcement in their hunt for the gang members.”

Abbott stated that DPS would conduct patrol operations in gang hotspots and bring six DPS trooper teams to work every day. He also planned an anti-gang effort in the city and deployed special agents to target five of the gangs.

“Thank you to all the local and state law enforcement officers and first responders that quickly stepped in to help their fellow Texans. Abbott stated that gang violence is not allowed in Texas and that we will bring all the justice against these criminals.”

The Robb Elementary School shooting that killed 19 children and two teachers on May 24, 2012, was about one mile away. 17 others were also injured.
