The View Sunny Hostin Drastically Overstates Percentage Of COVID Deaths Among Younger People

Sunny Hostin, co-host of ABC’s The View, dramatically exaggerated the number of coronavirus deaths in younger people during a Tuesday discussion about the liberal daytime talk program over the lifting school mask mandates.

Hostin stated that she did not want her children to die from COVID-19. Federal health data however shows that the risk of death for COVID-19-related illnesses in the under-17 age group is much lower.

“You see, my child is not worth the risk. She said that she didn’t want her child to die from complications of the vaccine.

The CDC reports that there have been 770 coronavirus-related deaths in children aged 0-17 years as of January 31, 2009. Nearly 10 million cases of coronavirus have been reported in this age group. This leaves the death rate at 0.008%. There are many cases that are not being reported. These COVID-19-related deaths account for less than 0.9% of all COVID-19-related deaths in the United States.

Hostin, who was praising the states that lifted the mandates in vaccination, turned the conversation to criticizing parents who have chosen not to vaccinate their children.

“Think about it. Every day, COVID is causing the deaths of 2.5 million people. We are normalizing mass deaths like this. “Everyone knows it’s personal for me,” Hostin stated, referring to the COVID deaths of her husband’s parents during the pandemic. “We now know the science. “I still don’t get how [2,500] deaths per day from COVID are normalized and parents aren’t vaccinating children.”

Sara Haines, co-host, noted that the majority of COVID deaths occur in unvaccinated people. She was okay with lifting mask mandates and accepting the possibility of her children contracting COVID due to the low risk of severe illness from the omicron virus. Haines said last summer that she preferred to see children wearing masks over ventilators.

Hostin, along with many liberal media figures, has been cautious about easing coronavirus restrictions during the pandemic.
