Seahawks Stun Russell Wilson and Broncos on Monday Night Football

Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos traveled from Denver to Seattle to face Geno Smith and his Seahawks counterparts to close Week 1. Wilson was traded in the offseason and returned to Lumen Field. Wilson has been playing for the Seahawks since 2012. However, there was no love lost as the fans booed the Broncos’ quarterback.

Wilson is undoubtedly the greatest Seahawks quarterback, but the fans heard it. Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith made a quick start and found Will Dissly, a tight end, for the touchdown. After the first quarter, Brandon McManus, the Broncos’ kicker made his first field goal attempt. The Seahawks led 7-3. The Seahawks led against the Broncos all game. They entered halftime leading 17-13.

Although the second half was quiet, the Broncos managed to make another field goal attempt and made it a one-point game. The Seahawks’ lead was 17-16. McManus, a 64-yard field goal candidate for the Broncos, made McManus available to kick the game-winning field goal. His longest field goal in his career was 61 yards. That was quite impressive. Justin Tucker, Baltimore Ravens kicker, connected with a field goal of 66 yards. He holds the record for the longest field goal in NFL history.

McManus missed the game-winning field goal but the Seahawks won against the Broncos.

After the Broncos’ missed field goal, Nathaniel Hackett, Broncos Head Coach, said:

He had plenty of distance. He missed it. Brandon tried his best. This is a difficult goal to reach. He’s fully capable of it, I believe. Although I would have liked to be closer, it left us in a weird position. We were within the field-goal range but in that fourth-down spot.

The Seahawks won Week 1 as the NFC West’s only team. They will face off against divisional rival San Francisco 49ers in Week 2. Along with the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs, the Broncos are the most difficult division. They will be playing the Houston Texans in Week 2.
