Melania Trump, the former first lady of the United States, announced her mother’s death.
“I announce with great sadness the death of my mother Amalija. Amalija was a strong, independent woman who carried herself with dignity, warmth, and grace. She was completely devoted to her husband, daughters, and grandson. “We will miss her incomparably and continue to love and honor her legacy,” Trump said on Twitter.
The New York Times reported Knavs’ age as 78.
People expressed their condolences in a flood of comments.
“Erika and I extend our deepest sympathies to First Lady Melania Trump as she mourns the loss of her mother,” GOP Rep. Byron Donalds, Florida, tweeted. “Mrs. Trump is an amazing First Lady. She carried herself with impeccable character, poise, and love – values that her mother passed on to her.” Amalija will live on in the hearts of all who loved and knew her.
