Los Angeles Parents Killed in Targeted Shooting, 1-Year-Old Child Survives in Backseat

Police say that a young Los Angeles couple was unexpectedly killed on Labor Day while seated in their vehicle with their 1-year-old child.

According to a Los Angeles Police Department press release, Carlos Loera, 21, and Ashley Guzman, 18, were shot dead by a suspect at 6:30 p.m. on Monday evening in Harbor City.

Harbor City police responded to an ambulance shooting call.

The officers found two victims, a male, identified later as Loera, and a woman, identified later as Guzman. Both had suffered gunshot wounds.

Los Angeles Fire Department officials confirmed the young father died of gunshot wounds on the scene.

Police said that paramedics transported the mother to an area hospital where she died later from gunshot wounds.

A police investigation has revealed that the 1-year-old boy also received gunshot injuries while sitting behind the parents’ vehicle. The police did not reveal the child’s name or gender.

First responders transported the infant to a local hospital where it was treated for injuries. The child was then released to its family.

Los Angeles Police Department continues to search for the suspect who is responsible for Loera’s and Guzman’s deaths.
