Jon Tester Faces Defeat in Montana as Senate Control Hangs in the Balance

The Republican goal of regaining the U.S. Senate is becoming more important as the race for the presidency becomes the closest in modern history. New polling indicates that a key race is heavily in favor of the GOP.

Tim Sheehy leads Jon Tester, the incumbent Democrat Senator by a massive eight points. This continues a strong trend for Republican results. Sheehy also passed the crucial 50 percent threshold.

Winning Montana would be a big step in securing the Senate. With Republican Jim Justice almost certain to win West Virginia and pick up the former Democrat Senator Joe Manchin’s seat, winning Montana could go a long way toward securing the Senate. Republican Bernie Moreno has also gained ground over incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown in Ohio. The race is only a few points apart, and because Ohio is a red state, Moreno may win.

The GOP is in danger, and it’s surprising. It’s Nebraska. Dan Osborn is a Navy veteran, union boss, and “independent”. He has received a large amount of money from outside sources. This has put Republican incumbent Sen. Deb Fisher on the defensive. Recent polls show Osborn leading.

It’s questionable how reliable these are, given that one was sponsored Osborn campaign. But the GOP is so scared of the state they are pouring money in. Losing Nebraska, if Moreno does not win in Ohio could result in the Senate going to the Democrats depending on the outcome of the presidential election.

The latest polls, as shown above, do provide some good news for Republicans. Democrats had some hope that they would be able to compete in Texas and Florida because past polls showed margin of error races. This hope is largely gone, as Rick Scott and Ted Cruz are both comfortably in the lead.

This thing is over as long as Republicans hold on to Nebraska. The GOP still has three weeks to go in the current election cycle. They can use the airwaves to regain momentum. This is a must, and several million dollars were recently allocated for this race. It will be interesting to see what the impact is.

Short story: You’d prefer to be a Republican now in regards to taking back the Senate. The more the GOP can score, the greater the chance of gaining a majority. If Kamala Harris wins, she will be the only thing standing between her and the destruction of America’s most important institutions. From the Supreme Court to the filibuster, to the electoral colleges. Voters need to keep this in mind when they head to the polls. In these red states, this is not the time to split tickets.
