In general, a politician’s popularity drops if they are out of office. People see losing to their opponent as evidence that they are no longer capable of fighting a good fight. However, being out of office keeps them out of the public eye by virtue.
Ex-President Donald Trump isn’t one of these people. He is one of few politicians who has experienced an intense amount of popularity following his loss. Democrats don’t know why. But Chris Rock, a comedian, seems to have the answer.
Fox News reports that Rock was at an event in Washington, D.C. honoring Adam Sandler when he started to take aim at former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and the Biden Administration, over Donald Trump’s arrest.
Rock asked, “Are you guys really trying to get Trump arrested?”
“Do you realize that this will only make him more famous?” “It’s like Tupac being arrested, he got even more famous and sold more records.” He said, “Are you guys stupid,?” as the room laughed.
Rock went on to riff on the circumstances of Trump’s potential indictment, which arose from his relationship with adult film star Stormy Daniels.
“Trump f—ing a porn star and paid off someone so his wife couldn’t find out. That’s romantic,” Rock said.
“We’ve all been cheated upon. “Don’t you wish the cheater on you would pay off someone so that you wouldn’t discover?” he said.
Rock knows why Trump’s popularity is so long-lasting. A lot of that comes from the Democrat’s constant attacks against him. Many views Trump’s election as illegitimate. The constant attacks on Trump only confirm people’s belief in him as one of their biggest threats. As such, they consider him a viable candidate to defeat them.
Trump’s arrest will only reinforce their beliefs. His arrest will only aggravate the hatred of leftists. Everybody else will view this as an opportunity to like Trump even more. This will only increase his credibility as a man capable of defeating the Democrats in the next elections.
This will also increase his status in D.C. as an outsider, which will appeal to voters who are tired of the status quo after all the corruption during the Biden era.
Rock is right. If Trump is arrested, the Democrats will strengthen Trump’s standing among Republicans and Independent voters. Trump will be a living martyr, much like the many others who were detained by the authorities for breaking with their established lines.
He will be able to achieve that status and the Democrats will have much more difficulty dealing with him in future elections. Any attack against him will only confirm that he is the man for them.
This won’t work for all Republicans and many will vote for their candidates. However, if Trump wins the Republican nomination, Trump will be even more difficult to defeat because they have revealed their fears about him.
