CCP State Media Praises Davos Spirit as Conference Begins

The World Economic Forum’s (WEF), Davos 2023 conference will begin Monday. Eligible attendees will fly 1,000 private jets to Switzerland to speak on the climate crisis. One country seems especially excited for the event to start. Global Times, the state propaganda outlet of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), praised the “Davos Spirit” by tweeting, “China’s ideals, and achievements also made Davos Spirit even more stunning.”

Further, the tweet stated that China was excited to meet “more like-minded” friends at the WEF.

The tweet included a link that led to a Global Times editorial titled “China has always kept in line with Davos Spirit.” It stated that the WEF theme of cooperation in a fragmented world had inspired the CCP to take a “constructive role” in resolving problems. Given that China has just witnessed mass anti-regime protests, riots, and a crackdown by the CCP called “Tiananmen 2.0”, I don’t expect China to offer extraordinary solutions for the rest. WEF seems to expect just that. WEF has partnered with numerous Chinese companies and entities, including the Bank of China, China Huaneng Group, and China Merchants Group. WEF has many ties with the Chinese government.

Global Times also noted in an editorial that the WEF and CCP have had a long-standing relationship. The editorial claimed that China has not missed a WEF since 1979. Global Times emphasized that China’s proposals and voices have always been in sync with the Davos Spirit, and have given strong support for it. “In 2017, the Chinese President Xi Jinping was present at the opening plenary in Davos 2017 World Economic Forum and gave [a] keynote speech.”

The CCP is undoubtedly the greatest mass killer of all time. However, this doesn’t seem like it will disturb WEF.
