Delta Plane Tire Explosion at Atlanta Airport Leaves Two Dead, One Injured

Two people died and another was seriously injured after an airplane tire from Delta exploded at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified by both a Delta employee and an independent contractor. Multiple news outlets reported that the incident occurred in the maintenance area at the airport shortly after 5 am.

The airline confirmed that the incident occurred at TOC 3 in Atlanta.

Delta Air Lines thanked the first responders for their “quick action” and stated that they were working with local authorities to investigate what caused the explosion.

The Daily Mail reported that Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens released a statement to confirm the tragedy and express his condolences for the families of those who were involved.

He said: I offer my condolences and deepest sympathies to the families of Delta employees who have died.

“I also wish a speedy and complete recovery for those injured.” Teams from the AFRD and APD as well as the HJAIA are working hard to resolve the crisis.

Sunday night, the plane flew from Las Vegas to Atlanta. The cause of the explosion was not immediately known.
