The far-left progressive have been caught breaking their own rules once again. An angry New Yorker publicly confronted New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray in a video recently posted online. The man accused the pair for selfish behavior in making non-essential trips to stroll in a park 11 miles away from their home, instead of utilizing the park near their mansion.
The man, Darren Goldner, posted the footage taken from Prospect Park telling the mayor and first lady, “Seriously, you guys have a park. You live in the middle of a park. You don’t need to non-essentially travel to Brooklyn.”
De Blasio tells the guy to “give it a break” and starts to walk away. Darren replies “I’m not going to give it a break. This is selfish behavior. This is so terribly selfish. You call yourself a progressive, but you chauffeur yourself to Brooklyn. You force people to drive you.” Goldner is slamming the mayor to his face and online for being a fake progressive. He explains that the mayor’s actions are showing who he truly is and that is that austerity for the working class, privilege for the ruling class.
New Yorkers are allowed to walk in parks in spite of the city’s COVID-19 mandates. What offended Mr. Goldner was that de Blasio put the driver at risk rather than staying in their own neighborhood and walking. This isn’t the first time the mayor has been publicly criticized. He also received a lot of anger from those who noticed he cut funding for Summer Youth Employment, education, climate, even Vision Zero, all while increasing funding for a bloated NYPD and planning expensive, frivolous, risk-creating, follies like the Macy’s parade.
Others have come out showing their extreme disappointment in the mayor not practicing what he preaches. Parkland Survivor Kyle Kashuv said of the video, “Quarantine for thee, but not for me.” Meghan McCain also tweeted “DeBlasio is a national disgrace. New Yorkers have every right to be furious at his blatant disregard for breaking HIS OWN RULES. How can our mayor “lead as I say, but not as I do.” What an utter joke.”
This isn’t the first time he’s been under fire for taking walks in Prospect Park while insisting New Yorkers only leave their homes for essential reasons. A New Yorker even turned him and his wife into their own social distancing snitch hotline for violating his own orders. What an embarrassment.
This is exactly what a Liberal would do. They’d deny their citizens rights to “non-essential travel” but give themselves the luxury of being driven 12 miles to a park in Brooklyn by a driver. The New York Mayor is acting beyond hypocritical in such desperate times. Political figures need to lead by example to help save their cities. But where there is a title, there also comes a sense of privilege. For the left-wing territory, this privilege is nothing but being power-hungry.
