It’s been fascinating to watch the relationship develop between Donald Trump, a Republican nominee and former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Both are big, controversial personalities with views and policies that would not necessarily lead you to believe they would become allies. But this is exactly what has happened.
RFK Jr. dropped the race back in August and has been actively campaigning for Trump ever since. The son of Bobby Kennedy, usually serious and committed in his public appearances, talks about his issues with passion and gravitas.
Kennedy’s description of a flight with Trump many years ago was hilarious at an Arizona Christian University campaign event in Glendale on Saturday. Kennedy recalled his relationship with Trump in the early days, and admitted that it wasn’t always friendly.
Two times I have sued him. [Audience laughs.]
He tried to build golf courses up in the New York City Reservoir’s watershed. I successfully sued him to stop this.
Then, things changed:
My wife was trying to find tickets to take all her kids to Palm Beach to visit my mother over Easter.
She asked, “What if I can find a ride for free?” I said OK. I thought she wouldn’t do it, but then she told me that she had found a ride for free. I asked, “Who?”
She said Donald Trump, and I said I was suing him. [Audience laughs]
Trump didn’t seem to care about anything.
She said that he had told her he knew you were suing him but it was OK.
I had an amazing time. [Pause.]
I’m still suing him. [Audience erupts.]
Bobby Kennedy was asked what he personally thought about @realDonaldTrump as a person. His answer is quite funny and captures the special relationship he has cultivated with Trump over the years. @RobertKennedyJr @TulsiGabbard @houseinhabit #MAHA #MAGA #Arizona #Kennedy pic.twitter.com/9FsfN5yQqd

This was a story that made me laugh out loud. It shows that even political opponents can be friendly. Was that possible in the age of leftist political rhetoric so divisive? I don’t think so, but RFK Jr. seems to have formed a bond with Trump. Their conversation on religion and God was particularly profound.
After the night that he called me after he got shot and, Butler, one of the first things he said to me, he said, you know, are you a religious person? And I said well, you know, I have a deep belief in God. Spirituality is the central organizing force in my life.
He said: I’m not sure I still believe that.
