The attorneys representing the father of Colt Gray, the suspected shooter at Apalachee High School, are asking for his separation from other prisoners to “ensure” his safety.
According to WRDW, lawyers for Colin Gray who faces four counts of involuntary homicide, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of second-degree cruelty against children in connection with the attack on Sept. 4, Winder, Georgia made this request on a Wednesday filing at Barrow County Superior Court. He is currently being held without bond at the Barrow County Detention Center.
The station obtained a copy of a filing from the attorneys of the 54-year-old. They wrote: “As a consequence of the coverage, public perception has been discerned by both local and national media and, most importantly, social media. This has led to an unending barrage of information that is being transmitted to the general public. It’s resulted in an incalculable amount of threats and calls for harm and violence against the defendant, in some cases even calling for the death of the defendant.”
The lawyers said, “So many lives have been touched by Barrow County in ways that are unfathomable, it would not be prudent to assume that there will never be any inmates in Barrow County Detention Centre, whether they are currently housed or in the future, who intend harm to the defendant.”
They said, “Furthermore due to the nature of the supervision required in a custodial situation, which is non-stop and continuous, 24 hours a day seven days a week, there are many opportunities for people to commit violence against the defendant.”
The defendant would ask this court to order the Sheriff of Barrow County, to separate the defendant from other inmates to ensure his safety.
The shooting at the high school resulted in four deaths and nine injuries.
