The Wall Street Journal reported sources familiar with the investigations of the shooting that the car was driven and found by Thomas Matthew Crooks (20), near the Trump rally in Butler, Pa.
The Journal reported police received multiple reports of suspicious packages near the location where the shooter was. They dispatched bomb experts in response.
According to sources, officials ensured that the scene had been cleared until well into the night before they searched the home of the Crooks family.
Early Sunday, Crooks’ neighbor told The Post that a bomb squad told him they had a report of explosives at the home.
Crooks lived in Bethel Park, a suburb of Pittsburgh. According to reports, the rifle he used to shoot was his father’s.
Crooks wore a T-shirt with the logo and name of a popular YouTube Channel that creates content on firearms and demolition.
Authorities have yet to reveal the motive for the crime. The political affiliations of the criminals remain unknown.
Crooks, a junior at Bethel Park High School, took incongruous actions on the first day that Joe Biden was president. He gave $15 to the Progressive Turnout Project, a group of political activists aligned with Biden’s Democratic Party.

According to videos on social media, the shooting occurred as Trump made remarks at the rally. He heard gunshots while putting his hand over his ear. Secret Service agents were positioned around Trump to shield him from any other gunfire.
The Secret Service snipers quickly neutralized the gunman after he fired. One rallygoer was killed, two others were wounded, and he was fatally shot.
It is not clear what motivated the assassination attempt. This shooting has ignited debates about America’s divisions and gun control.
Matthew Crooks, when asked for comment, said that he is still trying to figure out what the hell is going on.

Kevin Rojek stated that Crooks’ body had no identification after he was killed. At a press conference on Saturday night, agents “ran his DNA” and obtained biometric confirmation before revealing the gunman’s identity.

He didn’t have a clue how to reply and noted that he had not spoken to his nephew in “years.”
